Sweet Snail Made from Quark Balls

Today, you'll turn a quark ball into a little snail without even needing an oven! Your quark ball becomes the snail shell, a ladyfinger serves as the body, and with icing, eyes, and sprinkles, your snail gets its own unique look. As the snail designer, you decide where the eyes go and what patterns the shell will have. While doing this, you’ll also practice your dexterity, plan your work, and try out your own ideas. And if an eye slips or the icing doesn't land where you wanted... think about how to fix it. Maybe that blob will turn into a new pattern! These sweet snails are perfect for a cozy afternoon and also make a lovely idea for a children's birthday party.

What you'll need

  • quark balls
  • ladyfingers
  • edible candy eyes
  • icing
  • colorful sprinkles
  • a plate
  • baking brush
  • baking paper as a base
  • small bowl

How it works

  1. Put powdered sugar in a small bowl and add just a little water or lemon juice. Stir everything together. The icing should be thick and sticky. If you want, choose a food coloring and dye your icing with it.

  2. Place a ladyfinger in front of you. Put a thick blob of icing on the back half. Set your quark ball on top and gently press it down. The icing acts like glue for your snail shell.

  3. No one is peeking out yet! Put two tiny blobs of icing on the ladyfinger and stick the candy eyes on. Look: your snail suddenly has a face.

  4. Add some of your colorful icing on top of the quark ball. Now it's time for the sprinkles! Sprinkle them on while the icing is still wet. You decide whether your snail shell will be colorful or have its own pattern.

  5. Let your snail sit for a moment so the icing can set a bit. Is everything holding? Then your edible snail is ready. At the birthday party, you can create a whole snail parade, and each one might look different!
