What you'll need

  • A fresh apple
  • A freezer
  • A glass
  • a sharp object (e.g., a wooden skewer)
  • Your hands

How it works

  1. Grab your apple and place it in the freezer. Leave it there for a few hours until it's completely frozen. This is the trick to easily squeeze out the juice later.

  2. Take the frozen apple out of the freezer and let it thaw completely at room temperature. This may take a while, so plan some time for it.

  3. Once the apple is thawed, the exciting part begins! Take a wooden skewer, straw, or another tool and poke a hole in the center of the apple. The hole doesn't need to be huge, just big enough for the juice to flow out later. Have your glass ready!

  4. Now take the apple in your hand and squeeze it tightly. Be careful, it might get a bit sticky! The pressure and the thawed fruit flesh will cause the juice to flow directly out of the hole and into the glass. Watch as the fresh apple juice drips out.

  5. Try your freshly pressed apple juice! Mmm, how delicious and sweet it tastes, without any added ingredients. Now you know how to make apple juice with just a few simple tricks and your own hands.

  6. Why does this work? When you put the apple in the freezer, the water inside freezes. As it freezes, it expands and causes the walls of the apple cells to burst. It sounds complicated, but it makes the apple really soft.

  7. When you let the apple thaw again, the fruit flesh becomes mushy. This is perfect for squeezing it with your hands! Give it a try and enjoy the sweet juice. Maybe you can surprise your friends or family and show them how easy it is.
