Mandarin Ice Hack
Imagine opening your freezer on a hot summer day. Instead of boring popsicles, you find little orange treasures – mandarins or oranges! You don't need an ice cream maker, no recipe with 100 ingredients, no mess in the kitchen. Just one mandarin and a bit of patience. Your own fruit ice is ready. That's the Mandarin Ice Hack. Simple, quick, healthy. You can also try out with friends which fruits work well. Does it work with oranges? Maybe even with grapes? This way, a simple snack becomes an exploration task.
What you'll need
- Orange or mandarins
- Cutting board and knife
- Freezer
How it works
-
Pick a fresh mandarin. Make sure it's firm and has no bruises. Place it in the freezer.
-
Leave the mandarin in the freezer for at least two hours or longer. It needs to freeze completely. Take the mandarin out. Hold it briefly under lukewarm water to make it easier to cut the peel.
-
Carefully cut the mandarin in half. Use a sharp knife and ask an adult for help if you're unsure.
-
And now comes the magical part: press the peel from the outside in – pop! The frozen mandarin pieces jump out like little ice snacks. You can let them go straight into your mouth. A healthy snack that not everyone knows.
What kids learn from this
