Imagine you have a friend who always smells good. She reminds you of lying on the grass outside when the sun is warm. You can make this friend yourself – from real lavender flowers. She will be your lavender fairy. Maybe lavender grows in your garden, or you have a neighbor who has some. Lavender smells a bit like soap and a bit like vacation. You can create something very special from these flowers. Your fairy will have a dress made of lavender, a head made of wood, and a hat made of egg carton. You can hang her by your bed or at the window. You can also give her as a gift, as a fragrant greeting or as a protective fairy for someone who could use one. Ready? Then grab the lavender stems, some scissors, and get started!

How it works

You need three lavender flowers with stems. Go outside and look around: maybe in the garden, maybe by the roadside. Ask an adult if you can cut some lavender. Cut them so that a few centimeters of stem remain.
Find a wooden bead with a hole. It shouldn't be too small – you need to be able to insert the lavender stems. Carefully insert the three lavender stems into the hole of the bead. They will form the dress of your fairy. Cut off any excess stems.
Take an empty egg carton and cut out a single little hat. This piece will be your lavender fairy's hat. You can also paint it with a felt pen or watercolor, or leave it as it is. Tie a ribbon to the hat so you can hang it.
Now glue the egg carton hat onto the bead. Press it down well. Once everything is dry, you can draw a face on the wooden bead with a thin felt pen. Two eyes and a mouth.
You can now hang her where you can see and smell her well. She looks especially nice by the bed. There, the lavender spreads its calming scent. The smell reminds you of nature, summer, and quiet moments. Maybe it will help you feel a little calmer in the evenings.
