What you'll need
- White or light-colored T-shirt
- Markers
- Knife for adults
- Fabric paint
- Brush
- Plate or shallow bowl
- Cardboard
- Potato or sweet potato
How it works
-
Wash the potato thoroughly under water to remove dirt. Then dry the potato well. Ask an adult to help you cut the potato in half lengthwise.
-
Take the flat side of the potato and draw a pattern or shape on it with felt-tip pens or markers. Let your imagination run wild! You can draw hearts, dinosaurs, or whatever comes to mind.
-
Ask an adult to help you carve the pattern out of the potato with the sharp knife. Cut about one centimeter deep along the outlines of your pattern.
-
Take the plate or shallow bowl and pour some fabric paint into it. You can use different colors and even mix them to create colorful patterns.
-
Lay the T-shirt on a flat surface and place a piece of cardboard or an old cloth inside the shirt to prevent the paint from soaking through to the back.
-
Press the potato stamp gently and evenly onto the T-shirt to transfer your pattern. Repeat this step until you're satisfied with your design.
-
Let the T-shirt dry in a safe place so that the paint dries properly. Once the paint is dry, you can proudly wear your self-designed T-shirt! Show your friends and family your unique artwork and tell them how you made it. Have fun!
