Make Your Own Ladybug Snack
A little ladybug has landed on your plate, and you can even eat it! With just a few simple steps, you can create a fun snack using baguette, mozzarella, tomato, and olive. You can experiment: How do you cut the tomato so it looks like two wings? Where should the olive go so you can immediately recognize the ladybug? Try moving the ingredients around and find your own solution. Along the way, you'll discover different foods and practice using kitchen tools safely. In the end, you decide how your bug should look. How many spots does it have? Is it sitting on a basil leaf or crawling next to it? If you make the snack together with others, you can help each other. I'm sure everyone will look a little different.
What you'll need
- Baguette
- Butter
- Cherry tomatoes
- Mozzarella
- Black olives
- Basil
- Balsamic cream
- Knife
- Cutting board
- Plate
How it works
-
Wash your hands and gather all the ingredients. Cut a slice of baguette or ask an adult for help. Spread a little butter on the bread.
-
Cut a slice of mozzarella and place it on your baguette. Put a basil leaf on or next to the mozzarella. Later, it will look like the little bug has just landed on a leaf.
-
Cut a tomato in half. Carefully make a small cut in one half of the tomato, but don’t cut all the way through. Gently pull the two sides apart. Now the tomato almost looks like two ladybug wings! Place the tomato on the mozzarella.
-
Take a black olive and place it in front of the tomato. This is the head of your ladybug. If you want, your ladybug can have spots too. Dab small drops of balsamic cream on its tomato wings. Count your spots; how many did you get?
-
All done! Maybe you want to make a few more ladybugs for your family. Everyone can design their own bug, or you can prepare a whole plate together. Then it’s time to assemble, taste, and enjoy!
