They taste especially good in salads or muesli.
How it works
-
Do you know what you can do with sunflower seeds? You can eat them! They are full of healthy proteins and fatty acids and taste great in salads or as a snack. But before we can eat them, we need to harvest them first.
-
First, choose a sunflower that is already drooping its head. This means it is ripe and ready to be harvested.
-
Then take a pair of scissors or a sharp knife and cut the stem below the head. Be careful, the head is heavy and can hurt you if it falls.
-
Now place the head on a tarp or cloth and let it sit in a dry place so the seeds can harden. This takes about a week. After that, you can harvest the sunflower seeds.
-
When the seeds are hard, you can remove them from the head with your hands, a spoon, or tweezers. You can eat them now or store them in an airtight container. Have fun harvesting and enjoying your homegrown sunflower seeds!
