First Day of School
The first day of school is just around the corner, and you might have all sorts of feelings about it. You might be super excited, a little anxious, or both at the same time! Don’t worry, all these feelings are completely normal. On your first day, you will meet your new class and your teachers. You will have your own little workspace and might even get to look at your first school books. You will learn where the bathrooms are, where to keep your jackets, and where to spend your break. There will be many new rules to get used to, which can be a bit confusing at first. But don’t be afraid, your teachers and older students will help you.
What you'll need

How it works
-
Whether you feel a bit nervous or super excited, preparing always helps. Learn as much as you can about your new school before you go. Do you know someone who already goes there? Maybe they can tell you a bit about what to expect.
-
Remember other times when you tried something new. At first, it might have felt a bit unfamiliar, but then it became fun, right? The same will happen with school.
-
Imagine how your first day of school will go. Picture yourself arriving at school, meeting new friends, and having fun. When you visualize these positive images, you will feel more confident.
-
Maybe you have a small item that makes you happy or gives you comfort. It could be a photo or a lucky charm. Pack it in your backpack or pocket. If you feel nervous, you can take it out and remember that everything will be okay.
-
If you feel a little excited, it helps to take deep breaths. Inhale deeply and then exhale slowly. Repeat this a few times, and you will see how you become calmer.
-
Talk to someone about how you feel. It could be mom or dad, a sibling, or a friend. Sometimes just talking about your feelings and hearing that it’s okay to be excited helps.
-
Finally, remember... It’s perfectly fine to look forward to school and maybe feel a little nervous too. This is a new, exciting step in your life. Soon, you will make many new friends and learn a lot of exciting things. Have fun and good luck!
