You hold an old jar in your hand. It might have once contained jam or applesauce. Now it's empty. You almost threw it in the glass recycling bin, but wait! This jar can become something really special. A lantern. One that you design yourself. With your hands, your ideas, and dried flowers.

What you'll need

  • Transparent craft glue
  • Dried flowers
  • Jar
  • Brush

How it works

  1. Look in the kitchen for an empty jar. It should be clean and dry. If there are any labels, you can remove them with warm water. Dry the jar well before you start. Take the craft glue and spread a thin layer on the jar.

  2. Then carefully take a dried flower. It's best to use the brush or gently with your fingers. Place it on the sticky spot. Now take a brush and gently spread a little glue over the flower. This helps it stick better.

  3. Keep going until your entire jar is covered. When you're done, let your jar dry undisturbed. Best to leave it overnight. The glue will become transparent, and then you'll see the flowers beautifully again.

  4. Once everything is dry, place a tea light inside. An LED tea light is best. But with adults, you can also use a real one. Now you can admire your lantern. It shines. Your flowers dance in the glow. You've turned an old jar into something beautiful.
