Tower on a Stone. The Secret of Balance
Imagine building a tower with your blocks that ends up standing on just one stone and doesn't topple over. It feels like magic, but it's physics. Start with two stones standing upright. Place one stone across the top. This creates your first little frame. Then, your structure grows step by step. One stone stands, the next lies down. Each stone supports something, and each stone needs something. When you have stacked six upright stones and seven across stones, the exciting moment arrives. Take a deep breath, look closely, and gently pull out an important stone from the bottom left. And suddenly, your frame stands. Only on one beam. You learn how weight is distributed and why courage helps when trying new things.
What you'll need
- Building blocks
How it works
-
Place two stones upright. Lay one stone across the top. That's your start.
-
Add one stone upright on the left and one stone across on the right. Your structure grows. Continue placing stones: upright, across, upright, across. Build until you have six upright and seven across.
-
Gently grab the supporting stone from the bottom left. Pull slowly. Breathe calmly. Feel the weight. The frame now stands on just one stone. Observe how the weight is distributed.
-
Feel free to experiment with more stones, a longer row, or a different building style.
What kids learn from this
