What you'll need

  • 2 cups dish soap
  • 20 cups water
  • 10 tablespoons glue
  • Optional: wooden sticks, string, beads
  • Optional: wire or pipe cleaners
  • whisk
  • cup

How it works

  1. There are many recipes for soap bubbles. Here’s one you can try: Mix 20 cups of water with 2 cups of dish soap in a container. Then add 10 tablespoons of glue and stir everything well with a whisk.

  2. Let the bubble solution sit for a moment. Now you can create bubble shapes with different materials. You can use sticks, wooden skewers with string, or wire (like pipe cleaners) to bend into creative shapes.

  3. Dip the ring or shape completely into the bubble solution and then gently swing or blow through the middle to create a soap bubble. The bubble solution forms a 'thin skin' that traps the air inside, creating a soap bubble.

  4. Now you can experiment with your soap bubbles and play different games. Who can blow the biggest or smallest bubble? Who can catch the most bubbles? Bubbles pop because their 'thin skin' is very sensitive and bursts immediately upon contact with something.

  5. Experiment with different types of soap and additives to see how the properties of the bubbles change. Which soap creates the most stable bubbles? How do the bubbles behave at different temperatures? Have fun and get creative!
