Make a Jellyfish Dance Through the Sea!

Imagine you are at the beach. The sun tickles your face, you hear the waves crashing, and suddenly you spot a jellyfish in the water! It floats quietly through the sea with its long tentacles. You can make your very own jellyfish now! You only need two paper plates, some chalk, and pipe cleaners. Your jellyfish will look so lively in the end, almost as if it's really swimming! Get ready, you're about to dive into the crafting sea!

What you'll need

2 white paper plates
A pair of scissors
Colorful chalk
Wiggly eyes or eye stickers
Pipe cleaners
Wooden skewer
Colored pencils
Black felt pen

How it works

Turn one paper plate upside down so the back is facing up. Color the plate with blue chalk. Smudge the chalk a little with your finger to make it look like water. Now, cut a small slit in the painted sea plate with your scissors.
Now take the second paper plate. Cut a large circle out of the middle with your scissors. Then cut off the bottom part. Round the corners. Now it looks like a little jellyfish! Choose another chalk color. Pink or green? Color the jellyfish with it.
Now for the face: Stick on two big eyes and draw a mouth. Does your jellyfish want to smile? Or is it surprised? Think for a moment about how your jellyfish feels today and draw that feeling on its face. This will make it special.
Now your jellyfish needs tentacles! For that, take a few pipe cleaners. Twist some into spirals and leave others straight. Use a wooden skewer to poke several holes in the bottom edge of the jellyfish. Insert the pipe cleaners and bend them over at the back.
Take the wooden skewer or a popsicle stick. Tape it to the back of your jellyfish, quite low down. Slide the stick through the slit. The jellyfish floats on the plate, and the stick goes through the sea. When you move the stick, your jellyfish swims in the sea.
Slowly to the left, quickly to the right, a little up. How does your jellyfish dance? You've created your own little theater piece. You can come up with a story: What is your jellyfish's name? What adventures does it have? Does it meet other sea creatures?
