Icicle Catch Game

In the Icicle Catch Game, you enter a little winter world. One person plays the role of Mother Holle. As soon as she taps you, you freeze into an icicle. You stand still and wait. Two other children see you, run over, and briefly form the sun. They stand on either side of you and each put an arm around you until a small sun circle is created. This melts your frost, and you are free again. The game encourages reaction, courage, orientation, and teamwork. You realize how important agreements are, how to help others, and how to handle short moments of tension. The game promotes movement, social strength, and small problem-solving skills, and it’s a lot of fun.

How it works

  1. Choose a free space where everyone can run safely: a meadow, yard, park, or gym. One person is designated as Mother Holle. All others start as free-running children.

  2. If a child is tapped by Mother Holle, they stand still and wait as an icicle for rescue. Two children notice the icicle, position themselves on either side, and briefly put their arms around it. The created sun circle melts the icicle.

  3. After being freed, the child can play again. The game ends after an agreed time or when many children have frozen as icicles.
