Are you looking for a great gift idea for Mother's Day or Father's Day? Or do you just want to show someone how much you care? Then craft a heart from nails and yarn directly on a wood slice. It not only looks really cool but is also fun to do. You'll need some patience, a hammer, strong hands, and your creativity. With every nail you hammer in, your heart gets bigger. And with every thread you stretch, you show: This gift comes from the heart.

What you'll need

  • Wood slice
  • Pencil
  • Nails
  • Hammer
  • Yarn in your favorite color

How it works

  1. Grab a wood slice and a pencil. Draw a heart or another shape directly on the wood. Whether big or small, it's up to you.

  2. Now it's time for the nails. Place the first nail right on your drawn line. Hold it steady and gently hammer it into the wood. Place a new nail every few centimeters until your whole heart is outlined with nails.

  3. Choose a color you like. Tie the yarn to one nail. Stretch the thread from nail to nail. Around the outside or crisscross through the heart. Do it however you like. Anything goes. At the end, make another knot and cut the thread.

  4. Take a look at your creation. You've made a heartfelt gift from wood, nails, and yarn. Now you can give it away. For Mother's Day, Father's Day, a birthday, or just because.
