Halloween Craft Ideas with Toilet Paper Rolls

Halloween is the time when pumpkins glow, ghosts flit through the streets, and imagination comes alive. And guess what? An empty toilet paper roll can kickstart your very own Halloween adventure. With a few simple steps, you can turn it into a witch, a bat, a spider, or a mummy. To make it easier, there's even a template for the witch's hat and bat wings that you can print, cut out, and use right away. But you can also invent your own shape, making your figure even more personal. You can craft your Halloween figures alone or with friends. It's twice as fun together, and in the end, you might even have a little Halloween exhibition at home.

What you'll need

Empty toilet paper rolls
Scissors
Colored paper, black and other colors
Felt-tip pens and colored pencils
Pipe cleaners
Googly eyes
Crepe paper
A bandage

How it works

A witch without a hat? Unthinkable. Cut out a hat from black colored paper. For the hair, use orange or yellow paper. Glue the hat and hair to the top of the roll. Draw the face with felt-tip pens and colored pencils. Think of a long nose, maybe with a wart.
The bat. Flap, flap, right in the night. Cut out two wings from black colored paper. You can use a template or invent your own shape. Glue the wings to the back of the toilet paper roll. Draw a face on the front, spooky with vampire teeth.
The spider. Pick 4 pipe cleaners. Stick each piece through the roll from the side so that a leg sticks out on the right and left. This creates 8 legs. Bend the legs into shape so the spider can stand. Stuff crepe paper into the opening of the roll. Glue 2 googly eyes onto the crepe paper.
The mummy. Wrapped up and mysterious. Take a gauze bandage, a strip of cloth, or a bandage. Wrap the roll all around, leaving small gaps in between. Draw eyes on it. Decide if your mummy looks scared or stays friendly.
Now you have four figures in front of you: a witch, a bat, a spider, and a mummy. Place your figures together on a table or in a small box. Maybe you'll create an entire Halloween scene and come up with a story for it.
