Build a Magnet Fishing Rod
Are you ready for an exciting adventure? You don't need to dive into a deep ocean or climb a tall mountain. Our adventure is happening right here! With a magical fishing rod that attracts everything! But not fish – instead, hidden treasures! Are you ready to build your own magnet fishing rod and discover the hidden treasures? Then grab your tools, little adventurer, and let's get started!
What you'll need
- A long stick
- A string or a rope
- A strong magnet
- Bottle caps
- Other metallic objects
How it works
-
Tie one end of the string securely to the stick. Tie the other end to a magnet. Now you have your magnet fishing rod!
-
Use your magnet fishing rod to 'catch' the treasures. How many treasures can you find? How many can you catch in one minute?
-
Why does your magnet attract some things and not others? What happens if you try to bring two magnets with the same ends together? Can the magnet attract other things through materials like paper or fabric?
-
Every magnet has two special sides, like a secret code. One side is called the North Pole and the other the South Pole. If you hold the North Pole of one magnet to the South Pole of another, they attract each other. But if you hold the North Pole to the North Pole or the South Pole to the South Pole, they repel each other.
-
For more fun, you can stick little messages or numbers under the bottle caps. Whoever catches the highest number or the funniest message wins! Have fun fishing and discovering magnetic treasures!
