Baking Hedgehogs. Little Winter Sleepers from the Oven
Outside, the leaves are rustling, and the air smells like autumn—it's time for your new mission! Today, you'll help the hedgehogs prepare for winter. Not with leaves, but with dough! While rolling, shaping, and decorating, you'll learn to pay attention and work with patience. Decorating requires a gentle touch. Spike by spike, piece by piece. This is how little winter sleepers are created, which don't really sleep but smell delicious and show what you can do: plan, create, and persevere. And in the end? A plate full of hedgehogs that prove learning can taste good!
What you'll need
- Shortcrust pastry, recipe in the Grubenfuchs app
- Sliced almonds
- Baking chocolate
- Edible candy eyes
- Baking tray and parchment paper
- Pot and melting bowl
- Spoon
How it works
-
Shape small balls from the shortcrust pastry and flatten them slightly, making the front pointy for the snout. Place the hedgehogs on a tray lined with parchment paper. Leave some space as they need room to rise.
-
Press sliced almonds as spikes onto the back. The snout should remain clear.
-
Bake the hedgehogs at 180 °C for about 12–15 minutes until golden brown. Let them cool down well. Caution: Have an adult help you, the oven is very hot!
-
Melt chocolate in a warm water bath. Be careful: hot water and steam! Have an adult help you and show you how to do it. Dip the snout in, add wobbly eyes, or simply dust with powdered sugar. Mission accomplished, your hedgehogs are ready for winter!
