Imagine you can build your own house. Not from bricks, but from a simple sheet of paper. A house that you can design with your own ideas. With doors, windows, maybe even a staircase. You can come up with stories about it. Who lives there? What happens in the rooms? Today, you will create such a house. It not only looks great, but you also learn something important: You think about how a house is structured, practice using your fingers skillfully, come up with solutions when something doesn’t work, and draw your own ideas inside. It’s almost like being a little architect. Maybe you’ll build a farmhouse, a skyscraper, or your dream house. Anything is possible.

Black felt-tip pen

How it works

Take a DIN A4 sheet. Fold the sheet in half. Press the edge firmly with your fingers. Open the sheet again. Fold the right and left sides to the center line, to the crease you just made.
Turn your sheet over. Now fold the top corners to the center line. Press them flat. And voilà, your house gets a roof. If you look closely, it already looks almost like a real house.
Take a pencil or black felt-tip pen and draw doors and windows. Think about the people or animals that live in your house. Do they want big windows or small ones? A round door or a very narrow one? You can also draw a staircase, maybe it leads to the upper floor.
If you have scissors, carefully cut out a door. Slightly open it, as if someone is just coming in. Cut out a few windows too. Look through them. Suddenly, your house looks real.
Carefully open the sheet. Draw inside what is in your house. Maybe a kitchen, a sofa, a bookshelf, or an aquarium. You can also draw a staircase that leads up. What happens in your house? Is someone playing an instrument? Is someone cooking spaghetti?
Now you can color the house with colored pencils or watercolors. Maybe you’ll build a second house, then you’ll have a little village. And? What kind of people or animals live there?
