Outside, the wind is howling. Snowflakes are flying through the air. Everything is white. A real snowstorm. And now you’re bringing just such a storm into your home. Inside your jar, it swirls just like outside in winter. White flakes dance downwards. Bubbles rise up. Everything moves around. The oil stays on top like the sky above the snow. The water collects at the bottom like the ground in winter. The effervescent tablet creates a storm in the jar. You can see the flakes spinning, rising, and falling again. Almost like snowflakes in the wind. This is how your jar becomes a little winter storm.

What you'll need

A jar
Cooking oil
Water
White acrylic paint
A spoon
An effervescent tablet (e.g., magnesium)

How it works

Fill your jar about two-thirds full with oil.
Mix water with some white acrylic paint until it looks like snow water.
Slowly pour the colored water into the jar. It sinks to the bottom. Add pieces of an effervescent tablet to the jar. Now the storm begins to swirl.
Watch as the white bubbles dance like snowflakes, rising and falling again.
