Make a Crawling Spider from Cable Ties

Have you ever seen a spider suddenly move? Today, you’ll create one yourself using cable ties! Your spider can even crawl when you blow on it. You only need some old cardboard, cable ties, googly eyes, and a straw. You’ll learn how movement works when air hits a light object. You’ll practice your dexterity, spatial thinking, and experiment with blowing gently or strongly. A fun idea that’s perfect for autumn and Halloween.

What you'll need

Old cardboard
A pair of scissors
A hole punch
Googly eyes
Black short cable ties for legs

How it works

Cut a circle out of the old cardboard. This will be your spider's body. If you like, you can color it.
Make eight holes, four on each side. It’s best to use a hole punch or alternatively a sharp pencil.
Insert a cable tie through each hole. Pull it tight to create legs.
Glue two googly eyes on top. Now your spider has a face!
Place your spider on a smooth surface. Hold a straw to your spider and gently blow on it. Watch it crawl a little!
